Courtney Khail | Southern Watercolor Artist (photo by Elle Golden)

Hi, I'm Courtney.

I'm a Southern contemporary artist currently living in Athens, Georgia with my husband and our rescue mutt. Here you'll find a peek into what inspires me, new pieces I'm working on, and a whole lot of random thoughts. (Oh! And for those curious, my last name is pronounced “kale”.)

I wish you could see this one in person- the depth and details and layers are just remarkable. Framed in a gorgeous natural, maple frame, “Fruit Snack” is the featured painting for Day 6 of my 12 Days of Christmas Sale!

Seriously, it&rsq
This is one of my absolute favorites so I’m kind of surprised I’m letting it go! Created in part by melting “paint popsicles”, Day 5 of my 12 Days of Christmas Sale is: Balloon Animals!

Part of my Sugar & Vice Collection-
I see you swooning over there about my full color floral pieces! (I get it. They’re beautiful!) Well no more standing on the sidelines because today is your day to get one of those stunning pieces up on your wall.

Day 4 of my 12 Days of Christ
FRAMED original art for less than $400? Yep! All thanks to Day 3 of your favorite 12 Days of Christmas Sale. (Basically like the greatest advent calendar there is without any pieces of disappointing chalky candy.)

Today’s painting? ASHES No. 2

Lemon Lime Watercolor (and a note about the Miss USA pageant)

June 17, 2013 in From the Studio

painting by courtney khail

Just wanted to share a glimpse at one of my newest pieces. It's plays with both the cross sections as well as the full fruit which I wasn't sure about at first, but ended up kind of loving. Aren't the yellows and greens just so happy? I have another lemon painting to share, but I'll get to that on another day. And then who knows, maybe I'll try something crazy and break away from this love of yellows, greens, and the like. (But then again maybe not. I keep staring at avocados thinking "I should really paint this" and then next thing I know, I've already eaten the whole thing. Avocados don't last long in this house...)

I'm also going to start filming (taping? talk to myself while a camera records it?) my online watercolor class (have you signed up? You should. It's going to be a blast and 1/2.) Not going to lie, I'm a tiny bit nervous that I'm going to do the whole class and then realize something like I never hit record haha

Speaking of people being unsure of themselves on camera, looks like Miss Utah had a difficult time last night. At least she didn't reference maps and such. Though if I'm being completley honest with myself, if I was standing up there wearing 50 pounds of crystals and burning up under stage lights I'd probably have blurted out something about world peace. Or made an inappropriate joke about gender roles. Or simply stood there confused and finally ask something like "why is NeNe and the girl from Duck Dynasty judging this contest?" So I mean, at least she tried. "A" for effort Miss Utah.
